Tommy, age, 71, passed away June 27, 2022 at his home.
He was born October 25,1950 to Benny and Beatriz Chavez in Albuquerque, NM
He was preceded in death by his Father and Mother, his sister Georgia, and his brother Lorenzo.
He is survived by his children Tommy, Abel, and Melanie. his grandchildren, Brandy, Layla, Kaylynn, Miley Eli and Hannah. His siblings and their spouses, Benny/Nora, Edward/Susie, Bobby/Sandra, Martin/Vicki Carmen/John. Tommy adored his children and grandchildren, and was very proud of them. He would do anything for them.
Tommy was a music enthusiast. He played the trumpet in high school. His grandparents Candido and Tomasita bought him his first guitar. In his teens, Tommy started his band, The Midnight Sun, with his brother Lorenzo and friends. He attended the School of Music in Boston. His band played for various family parties and various night clubs in Albuquerque and Santa Fe. His band played with Tower of Power, and Bo Didley. He also took his band on the road and played in night clubs in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Tommy built a recording studio and green room behind his home where he practiced with his band. He practiced playing his base guitar in his home and in his studio. His band and other NM bands would also practice there.
Tommy was always listening to music. He would often invite his family and friends to his home to eat, have a beer, and listen to music. He was the greatest cook. He loved cooking Mexican food, Stew, burgers, and he made the best Fried Rice. His favorite food to eat was enchiladas.
Tommy worked for Nelson’s Meats as a butcher. He worked for KAFB Commissary as a manager. He opened his own Meat Market in Santa Fe, NM in the 1990s.
Tommy was very kind, generous, and funny. Whether it was family, friends, or a stranger, Tommy would help everyone.
We don’t know how we will live without you Tommy. Thank you for everything you did for us. We will always be there for your kids and each other, just like you. We will miss talking with you, eating with you, your music, and laughing at your jokes.
We Love you very much Tommy, and already miss you. Words alone cannot describe the Love we have for you. Thank you for being the BEST DAD and Brother.
The Recitation of the Holy Rosary will take place on Thursday, July 14, 2022 at 9:30 am with the Funeral Mass to follow at 10:00 am at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, 5712 Paradise Blvd. NW Albuquerque 87114.
