Sylvia Inez Nunez

Sylvia Nunez, 69, passed away peacefully at home on October 4, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.
Early Wednesday morning, Sylvia left this world after battling many health challenges over the past few
years and transitioned from being our Angel on earth to our Angel up above.

Sylvia was born on November 28, 1953, in Santa Fe, NM to Antonio and Irene Gutierrez. She worked
various jobs throughout her life including  jewelry maker and mail clerk before finding her true calling at
the University of New Mexico where she worked for 20 years in the Admissions Department as an
Administrative Assistant. Sylvia was a bundle of positive energy who was spirited but kind. Her friendly
and easy-going spirit put others at ease; it is no wonder she was considered a valued counselor and
confidante by so many.

Sylvia was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She was independent and strong, raising her daughter
Michelle on her own. She was the rock of her family, always there to lean on, offer invaluable advice and
caring love. She had a passion for cooking alongside her daughter Michelle for the many gatherings of
family and friends over the years. She treasured spending quality time with loved ones on family
vacations, holiday festivities and gatherings as well as going on camping trips and listening to classic rock
and Motown music.

Sylvia is survived by her loving daughter Michelle Padilla and partner Michael Silva, her grandson Josh
Torres and wife Ariana, her great-grandsons Julian and Princeton, her brother Richard Gutierrez and
wife Veronica, her sisters Connie Gutierrez, Lucy Gutierrez, Gina McNeely and husband John and many
nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her father and
mother Antonio and Irene Gutierrez.

Funeral services will take place at 10:00 am Monday, October 23, 2023, at Legacy Church East Campus,
4701 Wyoming Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87109. A bereavement reception is being held immediately
following her services at the Moose Lodge, 2121 Edith Blvd NE, Albuquerque NM 87102. Sylvia’s ashes
will be interred at Mt. Calvary Cemetery at a separate private event.
