Steve Smith

August 17, 1956 — August 12, 2024

Steve Smith was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on August 17th, 1956. In the early hours of August 12th, 2024, five days before his 68th birthday, he unexpectedly passed away in his home in Albuquerque. Preceded in death by his mother Leonor Smith, father Oliver Smith, and stepmother Rosita Smith. Remaining to cherish his memories are is grandson Gabriel Romero, daughters Nicole Smith and Jacqueline Smith, former wife Suzanne Smith, and his five siblings Larry Smith, Chris Smith, Greg Smith, Tony Smith, and Susan Strickland. Steve was an extrovert and a creative person all throughout his life. Steve was involved in art and theater at Highland Highschool and graduated in 1974. He continued his passion for art while working in the jewelry industry for many years and in recent years had focused on creating detailed drawings featuring geometric linework with southwestern themes. He was a passionate fan of classic rock, specifically progressive rock, and would always jam out to his favorite bands at full volume.
Steve was a beloved friend and family member to many and his exuberant and goofy personality brought a light to every interaction. He had a joke for everything and bringing a smile to people’s faces is what made him happy. He also remained optimistic and positive throughout the many health complications he faced starting in 2003 when he received a liver transplant, with this new lease on life, he maintained his positive outlook through a myriad of additional obstacles that would arise in the following 21 years including receiving a kidney transplant in 2020.
