Rumaldita (Romy) Saavedra
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rumaldita (Romy) Saavedra, who was born on May 24th, 1930 in Socorro, NM, to loving parents Rumaldo and Delfinia Silva. Surrounded by her loved ones, she peacefully left this world on November 14th, 2023 at her home in Albuquerque.
Romy's childhood was spent in Abeytas, New Mexico, where she resided with her parents and siblings. She was a dedicated and invaluable companion to her father Rumaldo on the family farm, often referred to as his "right hand".
During a night of dancing, Romy caught the eye of a persistent gentleman named Henry Saavedra. Through his unwavering determination, he convinced Romy to go on a date with him. Their shared love for dancing led them on countless dates where they joyfully danced the night away. Eventually, their love blossomed into a sacred union when they exchanged vows on August 8th, 1953. For an extraordinary 67 years of marriage, they celebrated their journey together until Henry's passing in 2021. Now, they will be joyfully reunited in heaven to commemorate their 71st anniversary.
Left behind with cherished memories are Romy's seven children and their spouses: Henry Roy Saavedra (Roseanne), Barbara McCoy, Betty Lingnau (Raynaldo), David Saavedra (Yvonne), Josephine Saavedra-Gallaher, Trinidad Saavedra (Darlene), and Manuel Saavedra (Louella). Additionally, Romy is survived by fifteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. Her loving presence touched the lives of many.
Romy will be forever remembered as a kind-hearted and compassionate soul. Her unwavering care and support were readily available to anyone who needed her. She devoted herself to a career in caregiving, which culminated in her becoming the beloved owner/operator of Casa De Mia, an assisted living home in the South Valley. Through her selfless service, she provided comfort and assistance to elderly and disabled individuals until her retirement. The void left by Romy's departure will be deeply felt by all those who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
A Mass will be held on Thursday, December 7th at 9am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church located at 412 Stover Ave SW in Albuquerque, NM 87105. Following the Mass, Romy will be laid to rest at the Fairview Memorial Park, where she will find eternal peace. A reception will be held after the burial at Sacred Heart Church Reception Hall.
