Richard (Rick) Gerard Martinez, 54, passed on December 29, 2022 at Presbyterian Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 30, 1968 and raised in Albuquerque, NM by Harry and Connie Martinez. Rick was a free spirit, who lived life to the fullest, not afraid to take risks and accomplished various career aspirations. In 1986, he graduated from Albuquerque High School where he was a wrestler, a football player and was homecoming king. Rick attended CNM and earned his electrical technician certification, he attended UNM where he earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Adult Technical Education along with obtaining a teaching certificate.
He enjoyed the passion of serving and socializing with others, some of the occupations that fulfilled this was: being a waiter, teaching at CYFD, helping non-profit organizations, being an educator for adult learners, restaurant owner and later in life he found his calling in cosmetology. Rick and our dad Harry spontaneously opened and successfully ran the Old Town Café for several years. For more than half his life he resided in Southern California where he continued to follow his desire to teach and pursue his enthusiasm for cosmetology. In California, Rick had many adventures, was the life of the party and created cherished memories while cultivating life-time friendships. Rick returned back to Albuquerque where he aided in caring for his aging parents. In typical Rick fashion, he developed new friendships and continued to spend time with his friends and family. Rick had a very unique and distinguished style of doing things, he did all things in his own way with a big heart and an unforgettable impression on others. He will be greatly missed, never forgotten and always in our hearts!
He is survived by his mother, Connie; brother Roman, sister-in-law Alicia; sister Rosette, brother-in-law Ray; sister Regina, brother-in-law Diego; nieces Janae, Lorena, nephews, Nicholas, Dylan, Rayden, Jaxon, Liam and Cameron.
