Dr. Richard "Rick" Heideman, a dedicated pediatric hematologist/oncologist, laced up his boots for one last hike to the Great Beyond on February 20, 2025 in Albuquerque NM.
Born February 20, 1947, he devoted over fifty years to advancing pediatric cancer care through both clinical practice and research, always seeking new protocols to improve patient outcomes. Dr. Heideman was known for his rigorous approach to medicine and his commitment to evidence-based practice. Beyond his clinical work, Rick pursued his interests with the same disciplined intensity that defined his career. Whether he was refining intricate “flying horse” stained glass art pieces, cultivating bonsai trees, or back country hiking, his hobbies reflected a quiet dedication to excellence. His keen interest in Pre-Columbian art and inquisitiveness about world religions and rituals further underscored a lifelong commitment to learning and precision .Dr.
Heideman is preceded in death by his brother Gerald, his mother and father Jean and Bob, and his son Rob - a child shared with his 2nd wife Dory. The good doctor is survived by his sister Barb (Duane) and step daughter Anna. Dr. Heideman’s legacy is one of steadfast commitment to science, patient care, and the pursuit of knowledge. His contributions to pediatric oncology and his dedication to research will continue to inform and inspire future generations.
