In the embrace of tranquility, we bid farewell to a soul who graced this earthly realm with his presence. Reyes George Olona, aged 90, of Springer, NM, departed peacefully on June 16th, 2024, a poignant moment that coincided with Father's Day. Born in the enchanting lands of Rayado, NM in 1933 to Beatrice DeAguero and Conrado Olona, Reyes flourished among siblings Con, Dido, Albert, Phillip, Edward, Harold, Margaret, and Louise in the embrace of the Springer community.
Having traversed the path of life with resilience and grace, Reyes ventured forth into the world after serving dutifully in the Army's esteemed 11th Airborne Division. His journey was intertwined with love and loss as he found solace beside his beloved wife Julia Olona who has already embarked on her celestial journey. Though separated physically from his parents and some siblings – Con, Dido, Albert, Margaret, and Louise – their eternal bond transcends the veil between worlds.
Remaining amidst us are his cherished brothers Phillip, Edward, and Harold; his beloved daughter Reyna; son-in-law Wayne; step-daughter Jeannie; grandchildren Mario, Amanda, Alexandria accompanied by her husband Brad; and great-grandchildren Saniyah, Serenity, Belle, Holden Alijah & Khelani - a testament to a life lived with purpose and devotion.
His footsteps adorned New Mexico's landscapes as he nurtured lives as a Juvenile Correctional Officer Supervisor at the New Mexico Boys' School before embarking on a new chapter in Santa Fe as a diligent health inspector for the State. Even in his golden years well into his seventies in Belen while working diligently in hazmat work - his dedication knew no bounds.
With seventy-five years woven into the fabric of New Mexico's essence and culture – Reyes embraced change by trading red chile pods for a cowboy hat as he ventured to Fort Worth Texas where he continued amassing invaluable treasures that reflected a life richly lived.
The warmth of memories shall be kindled during Funeral Services at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church July 17, 2024, in Albuquerque with a luminous rosary adorning proceedings at 10:30 am preceding the Mass at 11 am. A gathering resonating with shared recollections will ensue at Mario's Restaurant on 4th Street in Albuquerque at 1:00 pm – an ode to a life adorned with love.
Reyes George Olona will be laid to rest in the dignified and peaceful; Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas On Tuesday, July 23rd, 2024 at 2:15 pm, with the U.S. Army honor guard present to commemorate his valiant service to our country.
May we find solace in our shared remembrances as we honor Reyes George Olona. In these moments let us remember that love transcends all boundaries and etches an indelible mark on our souls.
