Monica Joann Roybal was born on December 24, 1957, in Albuquerque to parents Estella and Amado Roybal, and passed peacefully on April 20th 2022, surrounded by her children.
Monica grew up in Peñasco, NM, where she spent much of her time at the family owned Peñasco Café and Theater. She and her family were active in the local community. In 1972, she was crowned the Fiesta Queen.
Over the years, Monica lived in California, Hawaii, and eventually moved back to the Land of Enchantment.
Monica enjoyed cooking for all the family gatherings and was known for her Navajo tacos and unlimited supply of chocolate. She was an avid Dr. Mario and Scrabble player, which she loved playing them with her kids.
Monica is survived by her six children – Anthony, Jim, Jacqueline, David, Brittany, Jessica and nine grandchildren.
A Rosary is being held on Friday, April 29th, 6:00 pm at San Igancio Catolic Church located on 1300 Walter St NE, Albuquerque, NM 87102.
A separate Mass will be held on Saturday, April 30th, 10:30am at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church located on 1502 Sara Rd, Rio Rancho, NM 87124.
