Michael Jon Svanda, passed away on November 24, 2022 at the age of 65 after a long battle with Pancreatic Cancer. He battled the disease with the most amazing grace, bravery and strength. He lived everyday with positivity and determination not to let the disease keep him from doing the things he loved. He liked to tell people that he fought all appeals process’ available.
Michael was born on March 20th 1957 in Clovis, NM, to Charles E Svanda and Karen Ann Svanda. He was a quiet and shy child who found his place to shine on the High School wrestling team. He was proud of his many accomplishments on the wrestling team including being part of the, first undefeated season ever at Manzano Highschool, 1974-1975.
Michael loved all things, Nature, and was found in it whenever possible. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed hiking, kayaking and so much more. He took the time to appreciate a sun rise or sunset whatever he was able to see. He also took pride in working with his hands and was seen as a, Mike-of all trades. He was a better than decent mechanic, carpenter, plumber and electrician. He freely would give his time energy and knowledge to anyone who wanted to learn. He liked to say he “tinkered”. He was always keeping busy doing something with his hands. He made trash into treasures. If you were lucky enough to receive one of these gifts you know the love, he put into it. He loved a good meal. His culinary prowess would inspire any chef. He could take simple ingredients and make them into meals fit for a king. He enjoyed music and dancing. He once said he was shocked at how many concerts, he was able to see. He always had a little diddy to hum. And cutting a rug? He was light on his feet and spent many a night wooing the ladies with his moves. He liked to travel, to see new places to immerse himself in new cultures. Michael enjoyed spending time with his family, and he loved them very much something he often mentioned.
Michael was a strong, kind, loving and supportive Father. His knowledge and guidance were the foundation of his family. Michael is survived by is his oldest daughter, Andrea Svanda and son-in-law Anthony Minelli; youngest daughter, Tamara “little buddy” Svanda; his son, Daniel Svanda; his younger brother, Mark and wife Lori Svanda; his grandchildren, David Michael Womack and Alexander Minelli, aunts, cousins and numerous friends, like Sanford Clutter, who were his extended family.
