Maurice Sean Yazzie

Maurice Sean Yazzie, age 43 passed away after a long courageous battle with cancer on June 4, 2023 at the Raymond Murphy Veteran’s Hospital in Albuquerque.

Maurice was born in Sanders, Arizona to Cynthia Yazzie on October 19, 1979. His clan, Todích'íí'nii niłį́ (Bitter Water) and Tsi'naajinii yashchiin (Black Streak), Tótsohnii dabicheii (Big Water) and Mą'ii deeshgiizhinii dabinalí (Coyote Pass). Survived by his wife and 4 children.

In February 2000, Maurice joined the United States Marine Corps as an equipment operator. Trained in Kansas City, MO, stationed in Okinawa, Japan and Yuma, AZ where he was honorably discharged in 2004. While in the Marines he served in Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003.

Maurice loved playing video games with his children, watching his favorite shows – Wrestling, Duck Dynasty, Gold Rush, & Pawn Stars (just to name a few), hunting, fishing & camping, riding horses, playing basketball and his favorite place to visit was the beaches of California.  

Public visitation will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2023 at the chapel of Trujillo Family Funeral Home, 110 Alvarado Drive, SE, ABQ, NM 87108. Family viewing will be from 10AM to 10:30AM, followed by a Celebration Ceremony at 11:00AM.  Burial will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2PM with military honors.   A reception will be held at the American Legion Post 100, 424 Candelaria Rd NW, Albuquerque, NM 87107 from 5pm to 8pm.
