April 30, 1960 – April 6, 2023
“Kathy” passed away peacefully at her home in Albuquerque, New Mexico on April 6, 2023. She was born in Roswell, New Mexico on April 30, 1960 to Joe and Taeko Maestas. She grew into a beautiful, fun-loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, and a very good friend.
She was taken too soon by liver cancer though she fought to the very end and never wanted to give up. She wanted to go camping for her birthday with all her friends. The morning of her passing, one of her favorite county band were playing, Rascal Flatts, and the song was “My Wish.”
Kathy was an excellent hostess and many parties were made special by her organization skills. The radio was always playing country music. In her last days she recommended everyone to go camping or fishing along the banks of the Pecos River, in the Santa Fe National Forest. She also loved sitting along the banks of Monastery Lake, bait up her fishing pole and wait for the biggest trout. She loved sitting in the warmth of the sun reading a book. At home she loved doing arts and crafts, puzzle making and watching movies with her son, Jake. She always had puppy dogs, big and small, at her heels in the kitchen while she made the best home cooked meals and deserts. For holidays we will all miss her biscochitos. She will be missed by her family and friends as she was loved by many in her lifetime.
Kathy will be cremated just as her mother and father before her. She will remain in the care of her daughter Robyn and her husband Victor Hohnberger.
A memorial service will be held this summer at the home of John and Terry Horger. In honor of her memory, we ask those who do attend to wear red, for it was her favorite color. Let us keep making memories together in her honor.
