John F. Duran Jr.

May 31, 1947 — January 14, 2025

John F. Duran Jr., 77, was born on May 31, 1947 in Santa Fe, New Mexico, went home to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on January 14, 2025 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Socorro Duran; his brother Ernie L. Duran.  John is survived by his ex-wife, Gloria Duran, son, Thomas Duran (Kim); grandson, T.J. Duran; granddaughter Angelic Duran; three great- grandchildren, sister Roberta Gabaldon, nephews, Danny Gabaldon (Danielle), Michael Gabaldon, David Duran, niece Bernadette Rivera (Joel) and brother Tony Duran; and many dear cousins, friends and neighbors.

John graduated from Sandia High School, Class of ‘66 and was a proud Matador. After graduation, he moved to Santa Monica, California to soak up the California sun. After living the California lifestyle, John returned home to Albuquerque and worked with the Albuquerque Public Schools where he eventually retired, after returning to work at his former high school, Sandia.

He enjoyed watching the Denver Broncos every Sunday, and was excited when his favorite player John Elway #7, finally won two Super Bowls. When football season was over he switched gears (literally) to watching NASCAR stock car racing with Fords leading the way. John really loved music and had James Brown, country music and traditional cancioñes norteños on his stereo daily.

The family are forever grateful to Barbara Baca for the many years of friendship and caretaking, as well as Dolores Beames from Presbyterian Home Care and Sherrie Dugas from Presbyterian Wound Clinic for the outstanding care provided to John.

Vaya con Dios Juan.
