John W. Baker Jr.

November 20, 1938 — October 28, 2024

It is with deep sorrow and profound love that we announce the passing of John W. Baker, Jr., who was called home on October 28, 2024, to be with his Lord and Savior at the age of 85. John was born on November 20, 1938, in Islip, NY, to John W. Baker Sr and Margaret Julia Baker. A talented and hardworking airframe mechanic, John was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, known for his passion for airplanes and his deep appreciation for the sweet sounds of the banjo.

John experienced many joys and endured many trials throughout his life. Through it all, he was a man of great character who held true to his values and what he believed was right. He taught by example the value of honesty, loyalty, and the art of not taking life too seriously. He found beauty in the simplest moments and passed that wisdom on to all of us. From his quiet strength to his gentle humor, he had his own unique way of making his loved ones feel special. John’s legacy of wisdom, warmth, and uncanny ability to find humor in everyday life will live on in those he leaves behind.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years Manuelita Baker; his children, Sandra Baker; William Baker and his wife, Cassandra; Lynn Armijo and her husband, Ezequiel; John W. Baker, III and his wife, Camesha; Berdine F. Baker and her husband, Benjamin M. McClellan; his grandchildren, Casey, Shelby, Abram, AJ, Bo, Maya, and Leila; his great- grandson, Jericho, and his nephews Richard Baker and his wife, Shawna; Dave Baker and his wife Denise; and his great-nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024, at 1:00pm at Sunset Memorial Park in Albuquerque, N.M. Though our hearts are heavy with his loss, we take comfort in knowing that his legacy of kindness, love, and quick-witted humor lives on in each of us. Rest in peace – we’ll see you again someday!
