Joe Albert Mora, age 91, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born October 1, 1932, in Chilili, New Mexico, Albert created a full and vibrant life with his family, community, and many passions.
Albert was a talented musician, playing the bass guitar in a band called Alberto Mora y Los Conjuntos. His love for music brought joy to many and was a significant part of his life. He loved sharing stories of how the land grant was created and how the community came together to protect the land for the people. In 1965 he helped found the Chilili Rodeo Club. His involvement reflected his adventurous spirit and love for tradition and community. Then in 1970 the fight to protect the land and he became one of the founding member of the Chilili Land Grant, where he remained an active and dedicated member throughout his life.
Albert's life was a testament to resilience and perseverance. He lived through the Great Depression, the Influenza pandemic, World War II, the Vietnam War, the Iraq War, and the 2020 Pandemic. Raised to be a hard worker, he began his career at 18 years old in the Garbage Department at the City of Albuquerque. He later transitioned to roles as a cement finisher, bus driver, and truck driver. Gaining experience over the years led him to the early 90s when he started his own business as a dump truck driver. He did that for years. The grandkids would love it when he would come home after a long day's work, honk the horn on his dump truck, and walk in with his lunch box filled with leftover snacks. He eventually worked as an APS Bus Driver for his nephew's company until the age of 84.
Albert married the love of his life, Florence Mora, on October 7, 1961. Together, they shared 63 beautiful years of marriage, filled with love, family, and cherished memories. Albert was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was proud of his 11 children and loved spending time with them. He was always surrounded by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. You could always catch him sharing coffee with them!
Albert was known for his humor, pranks, and love of music; you could always catch him singing or dancing. He would recreate their wedding day by singing their wedding song, El Pescado Nadador, to Florence, a beautiful way to cherish their love. He also enjoyed visiting the casino, drinking coffee with his family and the extended family, and dancing with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Albert is survived by his beloved wife Florence; nine children: Joe, Faustino, Ida, Rosemary, Rick and his partner Liz Garcia, Julia and her partner Henry Chavez, Loretta, Gene and his wife Michelle Mora, and Rodney and his fiance Lynette Garcia, 25 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Salomon and Bersabe Mora, two sons, Robert and Charles, and nine siblings: Fela Sedillo, Anastasia Marquez, Faustino, Rachel Ortiz, Manuelita Gutierrez, Saragosa Mora, Anselmo, Maryselda Mora, and Miguel, a grandson, Vinnie Mora and great-grandson, Jose Mora. Albert's love for family, music, and community has left a mark on everyone who knew him and will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and always remembered.
. A rosary and mass will be held on August 8, 2024, at Holy Child Parish in Tijeras. Viewing starts at 9 a.m., Rosary at 10 a.m., and the Funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. to honor and celebrate Albert's life. The burial will follow mass at Campo Santo de Chilili, and after the burial will be the reception at Chilili Sala.. Pallbearers: Andrew Moya, Adam Mora, Joe Mora, Matthew Mora, Jacob Mora, Jimmy Lujan, Honorary: Luciano Mora and Santiago Mora.
