Former New Mexico State Representative (Dist 45) Jim R. Trujillo, age 84, departed from this world with grace and dignity on March 3, 2024, enveloped in the embrace of those he cherished most dearly. 

 Jim is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Victoria of Santa Fe, NM; sons, Jeff Trujillo wife Danette of Albuquerque, NM and Jay Trujillo wife Reyna of Santa Fe, NM; grandchildren, JJ Trujillo wife Alyssa of Albuquerque, NM, Jennifer Trujillo fiancée Nate of Albuquerque, NM, Cody Trujillo of Albuquerque, NM, Brian and Marie Trujillo of Santa Fe, NM; siblings, Jose Clemente, Alex (Martha), Arsenio, Ramon Trujillo, Geraldine Mannix (Dan), Clara DeMaria (Mike); sisters-in-law, Rosemary Trujillo, Dolores Trujillo, Mary Garza (Mauricio), Cecilia Pellicer (Luis), Bernadet Martinez; brothers-in-law, Orlando and Alfonso Romero (Virginia). Numerous nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his son, James; his parents, Luis and Andolecia Trujillo; their infant daughter, Jeanie; in-laws, Alfonso and Trinie Romero; brothers, David, Jerry, Evaristo (Abie), Billy, Luciano (Lucky), Charles (Charlie), and George; nephew, David; sisters-in-law, Dorothy, Norma, and Christine. 

Born and raised in the Pojoaque valley, Jim was a multifaceted man of many talents and roles throughout his life. He excelled academically, graduating in 1957 from Pojoaque High School in just three years before graduating in 1961 from St. Michael's College. His passion for education led him to become an English teacher at Pojoaque High School. 

Following that, he served as a Dial Financial Manager, where his financial acumen and dedication earned him respect and admiration. Additionally, he owned Al's Liquor and grocery store. Jim also dedicated a portion of his life to public service, working tirelessly for the Human Services Department then serving as a New Mexico State Legislator for 17 years. His tenure as a legislator was marked by his tireless advocacy for his constituents, always prioritizing their needs and well-being.   Jim's commitment to service extended beyond his professional endeavors; he served in the National Guard of New Mexico for six years while attending St. Michael's College, demonstrating his dedication to both his education and his country.  A lifelong Santa Fe Elk member, Jim's dedication to his community knew no bounds.

Apart from his many professional accomplishments, he loved sports and committed himself to youth development through his role as a Little League baseball coach for 30 years, not only to his sons but to numerous other aspiring athletes in the community. A dedicated golfer, he found solace and camaraderie on the golf course, where his passion for the sport brought him immense happiness.

Jim cherished his role as a husband, father and grandfather above all else. He loved his family and adored his five grandchildren taking great joy in watching them grow and flourish.

A Rosary will be prayed on Thursday, April 4, 2024, 10AM at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30AM.  Burial will take place after the Mass at Rosario Cemetery, with prayers of commendation and Military Honors.  A reception will follow for family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, Jim’s family kindly requests that friends and family consider donations to Scott’s House, Community Hospice and Respite House—a sanctuary of solace, comfort, and compassionate care. This hidden gem is located at 287 Rodeo Road, Santa Fe, NM 87505, (505) 984-1133.  Also, heartfelt gratitude is extended to Christus St. Vincent’s Hospital and Staff and Hospice Ashley Enchanted Sky for their exceptional service and dedication to comfort and dignity.
