James Ross Morrison

April 19, 1945 — September 9, 2024

Born April 19, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois on the banks of Lake Michigan to Robert and Maxine (Bailey) Morrison. He has given his life to sharing stories & music from around the world. For approximately the past 40 years he has resided in Albuquerque, New Mexico Before that he went to high school in Scotland, attended the Sorbonne in Paris, learned to ski & became a carpenter in Aspen, Colorado. In the early 1950’s, Ike Hayes, the Waterloo Vet, told our father: “Every boy needs a pony”. Jim’s pony got all of us involved with horses to this day! In the early 1980’s the trajectory of Jim’s life changed dramatically. He credits his trips to Mexico and Central America to be life saving adventures. Friendships were founded in those days that remain the heartbeat of his days. Jim fell in love with New Mexico and eventually settled in Martineztown. He worked for Univision as their Video Journalist all these past decades. Jim inspired us to slow down & cherish the moment if not on film, then in our hearts. From Iowa Jim has 4 sisters: Barbara (Bill Douglas), MaryAnn (Jim Mathis), Betsy (lives in ElRito, New Mexico), Susan (TimTrumpp); a brother, Bill, and his mother who turned 103 this last July! His family in New Mexico includes Marta Pereira, Ada Waddell, Derrick Press Jr., Gloria Romero, and Derrick Press Sr. Jim’s circle of family & friends from across the country, around New Mexico, & Albuquerque added to and enriched his life every day. Please know how he loved you!
