James Clayton McDermott

February 25, 1943 — August 17, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James McDermott on August 17, 2024, at the age of 81 after a long illness. His journey on this earth has come to an end, but his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.

Born on February 25, 1943, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, James was the cherished son of Bud and Lucille McDermott and the beloved brother among seven siblings. He was a devoted husband to Linda McDermott for an incredible 36 and a half years, sharing a bond that was marked by love, respect, and companionship.

James leaves behind his brother Boyd and sister-in-law Terry McDermott, who reside in Washington state, as well as his two stepdaughters, Susan Valdes and her husband Rick, and Becky Hatley, both of whom fondly carry his legacy in their lives. While he mourned the loss of many dear friends and siblings who have passed before him, we find solace in knowing that they are reunited with him in heaven.

A proud veteran, James served honorably in the Navy, carrying the values of service and dedication throughout his life. He made McIntosh, New Mexico, his home for over half a century, where he found joy in the vast, open landscapes that surrounded him. A true jack-of-all-trades, he worked tirelessly as a carpenter and truck driver, always finding satisfaction in his work.

James had a passion for the great outdoors, whether it was fishing, hunting, or riding his beloved Harley. His evenings were often spent at home, savoring the soothing tunes of classic country music, with artists like Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson providing the soundtrack to his life.

To honor James’ life, a service will be held at his residence, 43 Clements Rd. W., McIntosh, on September 7th at 11 AM. Friends and family are invited to gather and celebrate the wonderful man he was.

James McDermott’s legacy is one of love, camaraderie, and adventure, and while he may be gone from our sight, he will forever remain in our hearts.
