James (Dennis) Hunter of Albuquerque passed from this life on November 2, 2022, following a lengthy illness. Born in Mountainair, NM, he was a son of the late Elmer T. Hunter and Edith Morris Hunter. Dennis was a proud veteran and served in the US Navy and was primarily stationed at the San Diego Naval Base. He served aboard the USS Bradford, USS John R Craig, and the USS Twining. After leaving the US Navy, Dennis worked at St Joseph’s Hospital in Albuquerque and the Santa Fe Capital building, in Santa Fe as a maintenance supervisor. He joined the International Union of Elevator Constructors, Local 131, and worked 28 years in the elevator trade as an elevator constructor and adjustor. Dennis is now an Honorary Member of the union. Dennis attended the Christ United Methodist church in Albuquerque. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Delbert Lee Hunter, daughter, Kathryn Diana Hunter and grandson, Jeremy Hunter. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 34 years, Sandra Kuhlke Conley Hunter, son, Allen Hunter of Rio Rancho, daughter, Darla (Michael) Rowley of Royal Oak, MI, stepson, Justin Conley of Kyoto-fu, Japan, stepdaughter, Andrea Smith, Amigo, WV; grandchildren, Joseph Hunter, David Hunter, Brandon (Jessica) Hunter, Hunter “Max” Rowley, Kaitlin Hunter, James Smith, and Charlie Smith; and nine great grandchildren. He also leaves behind two brothers, John Dale (Susan) Hunter and George David Hunter both of Albuquerque, and many dear nephews, and nieces.
Dennis’s funeral service will be held at the Christ United Methodist Church, 6200 Gibson Blvd SE, Albuquerque, 10:00 A.M. on November 16, 2022, with the Rev. Dustin S. Burrows officiating. A visitation will be held in the Fellowship Hall, immediately after the service. Following the visitation, the burial will be held at the Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, at 1:30 P.M. with full military honors. Pallbearers are Allen Hunter, Jason Hunter, Justin Hunter, Joseph Hunter, David Hunter, and David Walker.
