Isabel (Lara de) Medina

Isabel (Lara de) Medina, age 99, resident of Albuquerque, NM, passed away peacefully in her home in the North Valley on Wednesday, May 11th, 2022 with family by her side. 

Mrs. Medina was born November 5th, 1923 in Camargo, Chihuahua, Mexico, to Manuel Lara and Rodriguez, she was the oldest of eight children. She lived a life full of love and adventure. She enjoyed traveling back home to her beloved tierra norteña, being with family, telling unforgettable stories and, most of all, singing her favorite canciones. 

Growing up, many knew her by “Chabela” in the pueblo where she grew up. She was raised in the Ortegeno of Camargo where she was loved by many. From a young age, she helped raise her siblings and run the family ranch along her father’s side. In 1945, she married Porfirio Sanchez with whom she had 7 children. After his unexpected death, she moved to the United States in search of work to provide for her family. She worked in California for a time before finding her home in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She met her love Alfred Medina, who blessed her with three step-sons, and with whom she was married to for nearly 30 years. 

She is survived by her brother Fernando Lara; children, Adan “Rey” Sanchez Lara of Chih., Mex., Socorro Sanchez Casas of Albuquerque, NM, Martha Sanchez Lara of Chih., Mex., Anna Maria Aragon of Albuquerque, NM, Yolanda Sanchez Lara of Chih., Mex., and Manuel Porfirio “Pilo” Sanchez Lara of Chih., Mex.; step-sons, Benjamin “Guerro” Medina of San Diego, CA, and Theodore Medina of Raton, NM; 20 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, godchildren, family and friends. 

Mrs. Medina was preceded in death by husband Alfred Medina (m.1963-1992); step-son, David Medina; husband Porfirio Sanchez (m.1945-1954); son, Jose Porfirio Sanchez; parents, Manuel Lara and Maria Rodriguez; siblings, Jose Lara Rodriguez, Crisostomo “Choto” Lara Rodriguez, Maria del Refugio “Cuca” Lara Rodriguez, Manuel Lara Rodriguez, and Santos Lara Rodriguez.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday May 17, 2022 from 5:30p.m.- 6:00p.m. at Trujillo Family Funeral Home, 110 Alvarado Drive, SE, Albq., NM, 87108, with a rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m on Wednesday May 18, 2022 at Our Lady of Guadalupe 1860 Griegos Rd. NW, Albq., NM, 87107, followed by interment at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 1900 Edith Bldv. NE, Albq., NM, 87102. 

Pallbearers will be Anthony Casas, Fabian Navarro, Fernando Aragon, Francisco Aragon, Luis Rene Correa Sanchez, and David Medina Junior.
