Mr. Hernandez Torres, born October 21, 1937, peacefully passed away on Monday, October 16, 2023 at the age of 85. He was a beloved member of the Albuquerque community, residing in the South Valley since 1967.
Hernandez was born in Las Nutrias NM to Saturnino and Aurelia Torres and was the youngest of their 15 children. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Ramona Mascarena Torres, who stood by his side through the joys and challenges of life.
Hernandez leaves behind a lasting legacy through his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his daughter Anna Trujillo and her husband Pete, as well as his son Joseph Mascarena. Hernandez adored his seven grandchildren: John Perea, Joey Mascarena, Jakob Montoya, Mona Torres, Jaclyn Montoya, lyn Montoya, Briana Trujillo, and Marianita Trujillo. Additionally, he took great joy in his three great granddaughters: Dymond, Viviana, and Patience. Hernandez cherished every moment with his family and continually expressed his love for them.
He will be reunited in Heaven with his twin daughters Teresa and Martha Torres who preceded him in death. Hernandez held a special place in his heart for them and missed them dearly throughout the years. He is also survived by one brother Charlie Torres, whom he shared a deep bond with.
Hernandez had an extended family of nieces and nephews who adored him wholeheartedly. Among them was a special niece whom he considered a sister, Libby Barela. Their close relationship brought much joy into their lives.
Throughout their enduring marriage of over 60 years, Hernandez and Ramona shared countless precious moments together. They created cherished memories during their travels around New Mexico, finding solace in these short getaways. Laughlin, California, and other states were also part of their adventures. Often sitting in their living room, they would reminisce about the smallest of details from these trips, treasuring every experience.
Hernandez was known for his commitment to staying active and fit. Daily walks offered him an escape and a chance to clear his mind. Many people would spot him walking all over Albuquerque with his trusty stick in hand, providing protection against any approaching dogs. He became a familiar sight in the South Valley, with locals often remarking that they had seen him on his daily walks. Until his health declined, he never missed starting his day with a #4 Blakes breakfast burrito with green chile accompanied by a cup of coffee. Ramona occasionally tried to suggest trying something different to shake up their routine, but it was a rare occurrence.
Hernandez and Ramona delighted in attending various church fiestas around town and in nearby small towns during the summers. These festive gatherings provided an opportunity to catch up with friends while enjoying the lively New Mexico music performed by local bands.
Services to honor Hernandez's life will be held at St. Anne Catholic Church in Albuquerque's South Valley (1400 Arenal SW) on Friday, October 27, 2023. The rosary will commence at 8:15 a.m., followed by the funeral at 9:00 a.m. Prior to this, there will be a viewing and visitation on Thursday, October 26th from 3-5 p.m. at the Trujillo Funeral Home (110 Alvarado Dr SE).
