Gloria Mae Valencia

Gloria Mae Valencia, 81, of Albuquerque New Mexico, passed away on Sunday December 31, 2023 of natural causes. 

Gloria was born March 15th, 1942 in Santa Fe, New Mexico, to the late Emilio and Manuelita Valencia, her 3 sons, 4 siblings, 3 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild.

Gloria is survived by her daughter Luanne, her two sons Leo, and Jelal (JB).  She was a single mother of 6 children. She has 16 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren, and her God-Daughter Luana. She has lots of family and friends.

Our mother was a very special lady.  She was a very hard worker and she accomplished what she set out to do. She was a self educator reading of all kinds, she would take college courses and in the library. Our mother started as a secretary in insurance companies. She chose to go into the legal field and became a legal secretary.  She went to school to educate herself further and  she became a legal assistant which she was very proud of.

She enjoyed her hobbies which was making doll clothes, she enjoyed drawing, coloring and a lot of doodling. She loved her books. In 2002, she started a special project with the genealogical library.  Our mother and other volunteers wrote a book for the 300th birthday of Albuquerque, New Mexico. This book is called Aqui Se Comienza, A Genealogical History of the Founding Families de San Felipe de Alburquerque, Publication of NM Genealogical Society. She was one of the editors of this book.  Some of the illustrations in the book were her own personal drawings.  Our mother was a good woman and was a joy to be around. We love you Mom. Life with you was a blessing and we thank God for you. You will be forever missed and one day we'll see each other once again.

Our family would like to say thank you to the Hospice House who took very good care of our mother. Presbyterian Hospice unit is the best. We could never tell you how much we appreciated everything that you did and your compassion and your love that you showed our mother and thank you once again. God Bless You.

We will have services on Saturday January 27th 2024 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  at the American Legion Duran y Gallegos Post 69. Their address is 9000 4th Street Northwest 87114, Albuquerque, NM.
