Gilbert was born November 20, 1962, in Las Cruces, NM, to Jose B. and Victoria H. Sierra. His parents later moved from Las Cruses to Albuquerque to provide a better upbringing for their children. Gilbert was one of four siblings. Gilbert spent his life growing up in the NE heights of Albuquerque, where he graduated from Sandia High School. As a young man, Gilbert was an outstanding athlete. He played football and many other sports. Gilbert was very outgoing and easily made conversation with others, his kind nurture of others helped him during his upbringing as he made lifelong friendships that he still carried upon his passing.
Gilbert enjoyed going camping and fishing with his parents and his siblings, Jose, Margie and Rachel. In Gilbert’s younger days he would have been described as very ambitious. He was in charge of the kitchen at Village Inn and was known for being an excellent cook. Later in life Gilbert and his brother Jose would take over their father Jose’s upholstery business and build a great community of customers they served for decades. After a successful run, they all wanted a new challenge and the family started their own trucking company, where they were contracted through Sears. Gilbert’s trucking business was voted number one in customer services and exceptional driving in the Nation multiple times. He took much pride in his business and ensuring the customer was satisfied, that Sears would ask him to travel across the nation to teach other trucking companies. He was good at telling jokes and making people smile. He was a very generous person. His main joy in life was being there for his family; especially his brother Jose and enjoying a cold beer. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
