Gerold Don Green, a beloved member of the Cloudcroft community, passed away on July 29, 2024 at the age of 56. Born on January 2, 1968, in Alamogordo, Gerold was a dedicated husband, father, friend, and colleague.
Gerold's professional journey was marked by a deep commitment to his work, from an early age Gerold worked on his family ranch as well as lending a helping hand to neighboring ranches. He then worked installing garage doors in the community for 11 years before starting at Scotty LPG in Cloudcroft, where he dedicated 19 years of his life. His strong ethic and determination were evident to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. Education played a significant role in Gerold's life. He attended Cloudcroft Municipal Schools from K-12 and later pursued higher education with NMSU while working at NMSU Fire Department. His hard work and dedication earned him a BS in Agricultural Economics in 1990. This academic foundation laid the groundwork for his successful career.
Not only was Gerold a hard worker, but he was also a pillar of support within his community. He tirelessly served on the Cloudcroft School Board for 13 years, contributed his time and expertise to the Otero County Fair Board for 7 years, and was a proud member on the Presbyterian Medical Services Board. His passion for helping others and improving the lives of those around him left a lasting impact.
Outside of work and community service, Gerold had a variety of interests and hobbies. He enjoyed hunting, working with cattle, and actively participated in local football games for nearly two decades. One of his cherished companions was his favorite bull, Haggard, who shared many memorable moments with him.
Gerold's warm personality and genuine care for others shone through in his personal life as well. He was married to his loving wife Jennifer for 33 years, and their bond was a source of strength and happiness for both of them. He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to his family, including his daughter Casey O'Connell and her husband Kyle from Rio Rancho, his son Lathan Green from Colorado Springs, his sister Jamie Shepperd and her husband Robert from Nogal, his brother Dale Green and his wife Jeannen from Cloudcroft, and his brother Austin Green from Alamogordo.
Gerold is preceded in death by his late Father, Arnold Green, and Mother, Wilma Louise Green, as well as his Uncle "Shorty" Norman Green, his Aunt Francis (Green) Goss.
A Memorial Service to honor and celebrate Gerold's life will be held on August 17, 2024, at Cloudcroft High School in Cloudcroft, NM. The service will commence at 10:00 AM, Friends, family, and acquaintances are invited to pay their respects and share in the fond memories of a remarkable man whose presence will be dearly missed.
Gerold Don Green's legacy of hard work, dedication, and unwavering love for his family and community will be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace, knowing that his impact on the lives of others will continue to inspire for years to come.
