Frank passed away at 85 years old from natural causes at his home in Albuquerque surrounded by family. He was born in Santa Fe, NM to parents Elizabeth Snyder Andrews, from Greely, CO, and Frank Andrews, Sr., from Santa Fe, NM. He was an only child and grew up in Santa Fe.
Frank graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1956. He received an AA from New Mexico Military Institute in 1958, and a BS from University of New Mexico, Albuquerque in 1961. Frank joined the US Navy in 1961, and attended Officers Candidate School in Newport, RI. He served active duty on the USS Boyd, stationed out of Long Beach, CA, from 1961-1964, and then served in the Navy Reserve until 1968. Frank received his JD from University of New Mexico Law School, Albuquerque in 1968, and joined his father’s law firm, Montgomery & Andrews, in Santa Fe, practicing law and building the firm until his departure in 1984. He had his own law practice for 2 years before moving to Portland, OR where he joined Harland Financial Services from 1987-2007 developing software for commercial and consumer loan products. Frank retired from legal work and embraced his love of photography, joining the newspaper El Hispanic News in Portland, OR as the staff photojournalist. In 2010, Frank moved back to Albuquerque and acted as the staff photojournalist for the newspaper Mas New Mexico, eventually retiring in 2012.
Frank had an exceptionally strong work and sports ethic and always pushed himself to exceed. He received awards, accolades and distinguished recognition for many academic, naval and career achievements. Frank always loved the outdoors. In 1955 he competed in the National Junior Skiing Competition in Sun Valley, ID. He founded the ski team at New Mexico Military Institute and on college summer breaks from NMMI and UNM, he worked at Yellowstone National Park as a fishing guide. He enjoyed hunting, backpacking, snow skiing, mountain biking, racquet sports, and billiards. He embraced technology and was always the first to have the latest tech gadget. Frank will be remembered for his work ethic, love of politics, and positive outlook; whenever he was asked how he was, he always responded “excellent.”
Frank is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Clara Padilla Andrews of Albuquerque, NM. daughters Suzanne E. Andrews of Denver, CO, Rachel Andrews (Alan) Hardy of Portland, OR; Mary Clara (James) Davis of Tijeras, NM and Susannah Rowan of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren Leila, Lucia, and Avik Hardy; Melanie Davis, Stephanie Davis (Sam Trevino) and Daniel Clemente Powers, great granddaughter, Janae Powers as well as an extended family of cousins, and sisters & brothers in law. He is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Susanna Maria Gurule.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024, 3:00 PM at The Padilla Family Home, 7241 Isleta Blvd SW, Albuquerque, NM.
