Emma Sedillo

Emma Sedillo, age 92, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 1, 2024, in her hometown of Albuquerque New Mexico, with her family by her side. Emma was born on April 5, 1932, to Perfelino and Delfinia Valencia in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In 1952, Emma married the love of her life, Joseph Sedillo at their local church, Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Together they moved to California, where they raised three daughters, Kathy, Melissa, and Justine. Emma’s family grew to include four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, who will all miss her very much.

 Emma touched the lives of many people and was always willing to open her heart and her home to anyone she met. Her Catholic faith led her to live a life full of passion for helping others, which was demonstrated throughout her life by the various jobs she held. Emma was employed by Lockheed Aircraft Company in California where she installed lights on the aircrafts. She was a devoted PTA member for Saint Alphonsus Catholic School, where her three daughters attended. Emma also volunteered as a school aid at Eastmont Junior High. 

Emma is preceded in death by her loving husband Joseph Sedillo, father Perfelino Valencia, mother Delfinia Valencia, brother Santos Valencia, daughter Kathy Sedillo, and daughter Justine Gutierrez. She is survived and deeply missed by her daughter Melissa Cota and husband Rudy Cota Jr. Emma leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter in the hearts of her grandchildren Gilbert Soto, Chantel Cota, Rudy Cota III, and Kimberly Ellison, her great-grandchildren who brought light and joy into her life, Andres Aragon, Isaac Romero, Isabella Cota, and Salem Ellison. Emma also had three dogs whom she loved very much, Kobe, Lexy, and Vida. 

Emma will be remembered by her strong Catholic faith, her clever sense of humor, and her unwavering love for her family. Her uplifting spirit and positivity will continue to inspire those who were blessed to have known her. Emma will be deeply missed, but remembered forever by all who knew and loved her. 

A rosary in honor of Emma will be held at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, 5712 Paradise Blvd. NW. Albuquerque, New Mexico 87114 at 9:30AM, on Monday July 22, 2024. A mass will immediately follow the rosary and a reception will be held after at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church Hall.
