In the early hours of April 15th, 2025, we lost our matriarch, Elaine Darlene Bland (78). The sun to our solar system, she went in the most peaceful way, surrounded by some of those who loved her the greatest.
Elaine was born on August 17th, 1946, and grew up in the North Valley. She traveled all over the world (even living in Qatar in the Middle East), but ultimately made her home in Tomé, New Mexico. She was vivacious, whip-smart, confident, and gloriously stubborn. A strong and bold woman who raised two sons on her own, all while obtaining her bachelor’s degree and working full time. She was a Grandma to everyone, and anhonorary Mom to others. She was so good at loving and so easy to love. Known as the life of the party, Elaine had a way of always seeing the best in everyone and made friends everywhere she went. She loved bingo, backyard barbeques, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Little Joe, camping, and planning the next adventure.
As a very faithful woman, it is fitting that she began her transition on Palm Sunday. We know she was welcomed into Heaven with a huge celebration from those waiting for her, especially her mom, Dora.
Elaine is survived by her sons, Aaron (Jaime) and ChristianMontoya; grandchildren, Eva (Dominic), Laurel, and Chloe; great-grandchildren, Anthony and Elizaria Elaine Dow; siblings, Donald Garcia (Bonnie), Claude Sena, Nestor Sena, Kathleen Rodarte (Walter), and Chonita (Holger) Watrin-Benkert; along with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
The final viewing is scheduled for April 21st from 4pm-6pm at Trujillo Family Funeral Home.
The Rosary and Mass are scheduled for Tuesday May 6th at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church. The family requests that people attending wear green in honor of Elaine.
The Rosary will begin at 8am, with Mass starting at 9am.
Elaine will be buried at Mount Calvary Cemetery following Mass, and the Reception will begin after the burial back at the Nativity Parish Hall.
Our family has suffered a heartbreaking loss, but we find comfort in knowing that our matriarch is no longer suffering. After a battle with dementia, we know she has her mind back. And although we will miss her every single day, she gave us the best memories to hold close. We will feel her love forever.
