Dr. William “Bill” Christopher Epler passed peacefully in his sleep on June 12, 2022. He was born on August 1, 1937 in Russell, Kansas to Pauline and John Epler. Bill, a self-declared “biped mathematician,” was a lifelong learner with an open mind and open heart. His pursuits ranged from graduate level philosophy at Oklahoma University, classical piano at University of Texas, and he earned a PhD in math and statistics at the University of New Mexico. He taught undergraduate and graduate level math for years at UNM and CNM. A true Renaissance man, Bill had a strong appreciation for art, classical music, and jazz. He was an avid reader of books about science, art, and history. He published three books of his own composed of poetry, short stories, and essays. His passion for equality, preservation of the environment, and love for animals has been passed down to his daughters. Bill was also a fierce and loving father.
He will be missed by his two daughters Katie and Lauren, friend and ex-wife Taffy, sister Patricia, and 10 nieces and nephews. He passes on to join his parents, brothers Jack and Tom, and friend Jim.
In lieu of flowers, we request that you donate to the World Wildlife Foundation given Bill’s love of animals and nature.
Given the rise in COVID cases, we request that guests wear masks at the service when they are not eating or drinking. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday June 18, 2022 beginning at 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Trujillo Family Funeral Home Chapel, 110 Alvarado Drive SE.
