Dana Jo Sawyers-Herrera, 64, passed away peacefully at her home in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Saturday, February 1st, 2025.
She was born to Dan and Jo Sawyers in Wichita, Kansas, on November 13, 1960. She earned an associate degree in nursing from the College of Santa Fe. Throughout her nursing career, she worked in the neonatal intensive care unit, labor and delivery, home healthcare, and hospice care. Her patients consistently praised her skill, kindness, and compassion. She loved working with families and had an extraordinary passion and talent for working with babies and new mothers.
Throughout her life, Dana had a profound love for animals. She delighted in spending time with and caring for her many pets. When she wasn't tending to her beloved animals, she could be found hiking in the mountains or working on her latest crochet project. Dana was an avid reader, a passion she shared with her children. Her memory will be cherished by her family and her presence will be greatly missed.
Dana is survived by her beloved husband, Miguel; her two daughters, Heather and Talia, along with their spouses; her son, Joey; and her stepdaughter, Cynthia. She also leaves behind her treasured grandchildren, Joslyn and her spouse, Whitney, Aspen, Katherine, Margaret, and Daniel; her great-grandchildren, Lucia and Xavier; her parents, Dan and Jo; and her sister, Melissa, with her children, Michael and Elizabeth. She will be remembered fondly by close family including Bill and Genda Williams, Rose and Mike Trujillo, and Betty and James Toledo.
