Corwin J. Brummel

Corwin J. Brummel went home to be with his Lord on March 21, 2025, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The funeral service for Corwin will be held at the Rehoboth Christian Reformed Church in Rehoboth, New Mexico on Friday, April 4th , at 1:00 p.m. There will be a viewing at 12:00 noon at the church.

Corwin was born on December 24, 1934 in Holland, Michigan, the fifth of six children of Raymond and Elizabeth Brummel. He was called to be a missionary in the Christian Reformed Church, bringing God’s Word to the people on the Navajo reservation for over 35 years. After officially retiring in 1996, he continued bringing God’s Word to churches on the Navajo and Zuni reservations, filling in where needed.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Esther M. Brummel; 6 children, Debra Gomez (Victor), Valerie Shell, Patricia Anderson (Bryan), Alan Brummel (Adriene), Timothy Brummel (Dawn), and Mari Waddell (Mike); 22 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and 1 sister. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers and sisters, and son-in-law Glen Shell.

Corwin was a graduate of the Reformed Bible Institute in Grand Rapids, Michigan, which equipped him for his service ministering to the people on the Navajo reservation. He served at several churches on the Navajo reservation during his 35 years, including: TeecNosPos, Arizona; Beclabito, New Mexico; Shiprock, New Mexico; Naschitti, New Mexico; and Church Rock, New Mexico.

Corwin was an avid bowler in retirement, spending at least 2 afternoons a week bowling with other retirees, and enjoying a cup of coffee and conversation after bowling. Corwin and Esther volunteered their time to help at the Crisis Pregnancy Center in Gallup. They were also able to take several trips in retirement, including 2 trips to Israel, and several trips to visit children who lived and worked in other countries.
