Benny Sedillo Sr, a true New Mexican at heart, passed away on January 3rd, 2024 at the age of 91. Benny was widely known for his passion for politics and his love for his home state. As a devoted supporter of President Barack Obama, he had the incredible opportunity to meet the President and even have his picture taken with him at Barela's Coffee House in Albuquerque, NM. Recognizing Benny's unwavering dedication, President Obama personally gifted him a trip to attend his inauguration in Washington DC.
Apart from his interest in politics, Benny had a deep appreciation for New Mexican culture. He delighted in traditional music and could often be found dancing and singing along to rancheras and polkas. His love for the local cuisine led him to frequent New Mexican restaurants, with AJs in Los Lunas, NM being one of his favorites. Benny also cherished the vibrant traditions of New Mexico, relishing in fiestas, traditional foods, and adorning himself with turquoise and silver jewelry.
Benny was preceded in death by his parents, his son Benny Sedillo Jr., two grandsons, a great-granddaughter, and several siblings. He is survived by his loving daughters Betty Sedillo and Bernadette Bejarano (Raul Bejarano), as well as several siblings, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and close friends.
