Angelina McGrath (Ortiz – Garcia) September 3, 1920 - March 30, 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Angelina (Angie) McGrath, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, age 104. Angie passed peacefully at home in Albuquerque, NM, on March 30, 2025, with family by her side. Angie was born on September 3, 1920, in Watrous, NM to Abelino and Sofronia Ortiz.

Angie grew up in Pena Blanca, NM and moved to Santa Fe, NM in 1941 when she married Hilario Garcia. Angie and Hilario made Santa Fe their home, where they raised their family. After Hilario passed in 1972, Angie moved to Albuquerque, NM, where she worked for the Social Security Administration for years and then retired. Angie met and then married Fred McGrath in 1979. After Fred’s passing in 2010, Angie chose to remain in Albuquerque.

During her retirement years, Angie pursued and shined in her creative interest of ceramics. She was a devout Catholic and an active member of the Holy Ghost Catholic Community. Angie was entrusted with the keys to the church and considered it an honor to open and clean the church daily, until she was no longer able to physically do so. Angie was a beautiful person, made many friends over the years, and will be missed.

Angie was preceded in death by parents, Abelino and Sofronia Ortiz; sisters, Teresa Gonzales, Alice Romero, Elvira Romero, Josie Lujan; brother, Eloy Ortiz; and her son, Ross Garcia.

Angie is survived by daughters Esperanza Roybal (Floyd) and Consuelo Alarid (Tony), and son, Benito Garcia (Emily); grandchildren Judy Roybal, Floyd Roybal Jr., Angela Thorne (Michael), Larry Roybal, Tina Montoya (Vince), Roland Alarid, Suzanne Ortiz (Joe), Jacqueline Brown, Lisa McElroy (Chris), Benito Garcia (Feliz), and Genaro Garcia (Andrea); fourteen great-grandchildren, eleven great-great grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

Services will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2025. Rosary 9:30am and Mass 10:00am at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 833 Arizona, SE, Albuquerque, NM. Interment 1:00 pm at the Santa Fe National Cemetery, 501 N. Guadalupe, Santa Fe, NM.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the Presbyterian Hospice Team for providing excellent care, special thanks to nurse Jessica, caregiver Marlene, neighbors and dear friends, Eileen and Arnold Espiritu and Lydia Powers, and all the friends and family who helped care for or visited Angie.
